You know, the sun delves out massive amounts of energy that we largely don’t harness (grains, plants, and that circle of life thing aside). One of the biggest sources of power consumption in our homes is the A/C unit, especially here in the desert. We highly depend on it. And it’s sitting out in the sun all the live-long day. Why not strap a solar panel to it?
A company called SolCool will start delivering super-efficient air conditioners that can run off solar panels, with the extra benefit of also having a battery that can store power so you don’t melt during a blackout.
