The folks at Digital Inspiration have provided a nice and easy way to automatically open up the Google Talk client in a sidebar (or any web page, for that matter).  All the functionality required to make it tick are already included in Firefox.  Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Bookmark the Google Talk client (right-click and choose Bookmark this link): http://talkgadget.google.com/talkgadget/client
  2. Go to the bookmarks menu, navigate to the bookmark you just created, right-click on it and select Properties
  3. Select the checkbox that says “Load this bookmark in the sidebar” and click OK

You’re done!  This is one of those nice little features of Firefox that might escape your attention at first glance.
