Crysis is an unreleased PC game which is being developed by Crytek, the company who released the 2004 hit, Far Cry. Crytek is basing this game on their brand new graphics engine, CryENGINE2, which produces some of the most stunning graphics I have ever laid eyes on. And that judgment is based solely on their level editor!
This is an example of the engine’s ability to produce an extremely life-like face. Notice the incredible detail, from freckles, to wrinkles, to pores, to stubble…everything is created with striking realism. And that’s just the beginning. The landscapes in this game are completely jaw-dropping. Below is a video showing one of developers who is going through the steps involved to add roads, trees, foliage, enemies, etc. to a game map. The sun rises and sets in a realistic way, the clouds appear to be real, the stars are actually mapped from what we see every night, and the shadows are dynamically created and contain full detail. See for yourself, and you won’t be surprised that I’m so excited about this game!
Crysis is being developed using DirectX 10, which is only available in Windows Vista. So, if you didn’t have a reason to get Vista before, now you do!
