At first glance, it would seem that the Twilight Tracer golf ball would be a good companion to the GPS-enabled golf cap in order to boost your game using technology. As you can see, it flashes wildly with a brilliant red light so that you will not lose sight of it.
However, I see a “hole in one” or two of the manufacturer’s claims (sorry, bad pun).
you’ll never lose a golf ball again! When you hit them, they’ll flash for around 5 minutes, so you’ve got time to get up there and find it.
It would seem that this particular product is geared toward those who can’t hit the fairway. Or, perhaps more accurately, those who hit the ball so far away from their intended landing spot that most of their game is spent searching (like myself, unfortunately). Hence, the 5 minutes of flashes. Now, given that the target audience is so terrible at golf, we must keep in mind that any golf course that doesn’t also offer go-karts and bumper boats will have water hazards and perhaps other out-of-bounds areas where the ball cannot reasonably be recovered. Therefore, the claim that “you’ll never lose a golf ball again” may be true as far as locating where it went, but unless you’re equipped with a wetsuit and scuba equipment, your ball will be lost. Kaput. Gone forever. Get the picture? And, based on a price of over $16 per ball and the fact that the golfer who uses them will probably hit several water hazards per game, that’s quite an expense.
You don’t have to worry about beating the fading light any more - in fact the darker it is, the easier your Twilight Tracer will be to see!
So, really all we need is to be able to see the ball in the dark. It doesn’t matter if we can see the course at all. In fact, who cares where the pin is, anyway? What matters is that we can hit the ball and find it later. What fun!
