Candy Hearts

Lifehacker is featuring a handy tip for creating personalized candy hearts for the love of your life. All you need is a cake-decorating pen and a microplane grater. Simply file off the existing text and write romantic messages to your heart’s content.

Another nice idea is a reader-submitted photograph that appears 3-dimensional (though I’m not exactly sure what to expect without seeing an example):

First, I carefully chose three beautiful photos of my wife with me, our son, and our daughter. I opened the photos in paint, copied them, resized them, oriented them, added some choice text, and then printed it on 8.5″ x 11″ paper in black and white. I then took the print and copied it to the same sized transparency film (she’s a teacher!). I found the perfect frame at WM and bought an extra frame, a cheapie, just for the glass. I then taped the transparency to the back of the first piece of glass (the one in the frame being used), and I placed the extra piece behind it. The hardest part is aligning the printout directly behind the transparency so that it creates a 3D illusion! My wife cried and was blown away at how the eyes in the photos appeared to move as you move your head around. It was worth the $9.50 for the frames!

Or, if you’re just looking for a tranparent photo that inherits the color of your walls:

The second one was much easier. At WM I found a large frame which displays diplomas, certificates, etc. by sandwiching it between two panes of glass. I just printed some more photos with more text, and used only the transparency. With it copied on the transparency and sandwiched between the glass, the background is whatever color the wall is -it matches no matter where you hang it! (note: this will not cover a hole or bad spot in the wall - hang with care!)

I haven’t tried any of these methods, but I probably ought to. Anything that’s personalized can go a long way to express your love to your one-and-only.

For those of you who speak spanish, you’ll notice that the hearts say “Te Ammo” instead of “Te Amo”. Absurd, I know. Don’t blame me, I didn’t create the image. :)
