As if it were enough of a problem already to upgrade to Windows Vista, it is now apparent that Microsoft plans to invalidate your Windows XP key if you buy the Vista Upgrade package.
From the Vista EULA (found here):
13. UPGRADES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. Upon upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software you upgraded from. After you upgrade, you may no longer use the software you upgraded from.
What does this mean, exactly?
- No dual-booting with your previous copy of XP
- No falling back on XP if you are not satisfied with Vista
- No using your copy of XP on another home computer
For me, Linux continues to look more and more appealing…
